With Sword and Crown is composed for 6 tenor trombones and 2 bass trombones. Beginning in 3/4, the piece features a strong fanfare utilizing the famous triplet "Fate" rhythm featured in so many compositions. From here, the composition takes off in a quick, driving 7/8 time. The driving music representing the idea of fighting ones own fate. We get a brief, mournful interlude in the middle returning to 3/4 time before finally arriving back in 7/8 time as we prepare for our final battle.
